Semester's over!  Sort of.  Still have to do a presentation and grant proposal for Jan 15th, but otherwise all is done. At least it is bug-related work, makes it bearable.  I did rather well mark-wise, getting an entire stanine higher in chemistry than I expected, whoo.

Eek. Maybe I should go x-mas shopping, not much time left.  I guess I'll do that tomorrow... er later today (3am now).  And look at me babble about nothing.  I really haven't done much of anything other than eat, sleep, and study for the last while so I'm not very interesting right now.  Happy holidays.

Dec 5th, 2002

Hey I actually did a bit of updating.  Added the stories to my dragonlance characters under illustrations.  And for the fun old occasion of final exams, I'm adding a special section that Sarah emailed me.  It's under Anarchy, or you can click here.  It tells you how to write a college paper... but I find it seems to work for final exams right now too.  I can't wait.... 9 days from now I'm all finished this semester and done all my finals.  AcK... perhaps a lot more studying is in order!
Nov 26th, 2002 Well classes are winding down now, only have about a week and a half left of school.  For once, I'm not even crammed with a zillion assignments either.  Just gotta write up a chem lab and a bio paper.  The bio paper is 40% of my mark in envirophysiology- the paper about the hydroponic lettuce and radishes I'm currently growing in different nitrogen conditions.  I'm not worried at all, it'll be interesting to do, and they are a breeze for me to write.  Oh, some news on my hydroponic lettuce.  It tastes good.  mmm lettuce.  I made Rob eat some and when he didn't grow six fingers or pass out, I ate a leaf too.  It really is quite tasty.  I make good lettuce!

Right now I'm struggling to keep awake, I was up late finishing my ethics paper.  I was worried I wouldn't get 12 pages but ended up with 18.  Ironic.  I think I'm going to go get a coke/cream soda slush from the cafeteria, that should hopefully keep me awake through chemistry.  Coke slushes are my coffee-substitute.

Whoa, I must have needed sleep really bad or something.  I woke up at 6am to get ready for school, but I felt like crap so I went  back to sleep... And woke up at 2pm.  Well mom called once at 11am but she got cut off the phone in the middle, so I went back to sleep.  Turns out my parents have no houseline anymore for some reason... she had to call me back later on her cell phone.  The lines there are completely dead.  *boggle*  Sounds like a creepy movie or something.

Oh, speaking of movies/shows, lets see, last friday I went to see the play Antigone that the university drama students put on for the school.  It was pretty decent, but I have to admit I'm not really a tragedy fan.  The only tragedy I really like is MacBeth.  The one I hate the most is Romeo and Juliet....I mean the characters are just *stupid*.  It bugs me how silly the characters are in that play, all the death was preventable.   As for modern movies, I went to see The Bourne Identity with Sarah a bit later in the week.  GOOD movie.  The first half was especially good, but I think the last half could have been done better... ie more focus on Matt Damon than the girl. mmm, matt damon.

I finally got rid of that nasty pic of me in the photo part, and if you saved it, it will self-destruct on your computer in 30seconds, so you better nuke it.  At the moment I'm attempting to finish the pic I'm drawing for mia before she smites me.  Then:  tackle the ethics paper.

Nov 15th, 2002 Hey look!  2 updates in the same week.  This doesn't mean good content, only quantity.

Lets see... what's new.  Uh... its 2am... and I'm wired because I ate some homemade perogies at midnight.  Its not really smart when I do that.. I eat late and then my blood sugar goes up and I wake up.  The funny  thing was that I was exhausted the entire day... could barely keep my eyes open in chemistry.  Don't ask what the lecture was on, I have no idea.  In fact, for awhile there in the class I was taking notes with my head lying down next to my notebook.  It was baaad.  The room was so comfy, I was still full of breakfast, and I was unstressed as I was done most of my assignments, etc.  Plus I was up until 1am the night before, and got up at 6.  I'm one of those people who need 8 or 9 hours of sleep every night or I feel tired all day.  Anyways... in chem, just when I was actually going to fall asleep, the prof announced he was going to do a demonstration in the lab.  Whoo... a distraction.  The whole class got up, when down the hall to the freshman lab.  He had previously set up a graduated cylinder with icing sugar and some other chemical in it in the fume hood.  He then turned off the lights, used an eyedropper to add a catalyst.... and the tube burst into a  flame torch that shot foot-long deep reddish pink flames for almost a full minute.   heh heh.  fun.

 Now THAT'S chemistry.

Carla is the enemy!!  She likes vanilla coke!!  NooooOoOoOOoooooo!

Okay, that out of the way... I've had a completely uneventful week and weekend, so that's why I haven't updated in a long while.  At least, that's the excuse. *cough cough*

And for those of you wondering... what's with the fish?  Well, I had to research color change in animals, and found this critter.  Apparently flounders can even hide on a checkerboard pattern.

ARRRRG.  Chemistry is evil.  I've spent ANOTHER 3 hours tonight on the same lab and I'm still pretty sure it's not correct.   Its just so frustrating as there are all these numbers and readings you have to take in the lab, and somehow stick them in a formula until you get a number you like.  I'm hoping after I master the calculations to the first lab, the others will just basically be fill-in-the-blank.  All of the labs are very similar, we are just honing the accuracy of proper lab technique rather than demonstrating a variety of different chemical reactions.

As for me, I've had a flu all week so it hasn't been fun.  Its pretty much gone now though, which is good, so now I can do more than just sleep and vegetate.

Well that was interesting, the other night I watched police blockade a guy with cop cars and pick him up and shove him into a police car at 2am.  It was across the street from me, I woke up at like 2am when I heard a crash sound.  I wonder what happened.   Downtown living is always intrestin' here.

Lets see... what other news.  Umm, I took a four hour nap today.. it was very nice, I must have needed it.  Been up too many late nights in a row.  I'll probably end up hibernating all weekend too.  I've been on a classical music kick for the last week, which is unusual as I've not been on one for years.  Listening to some violins in the theme for Schindler's List at the moment.  I have no weekend plans yet.....that  is unusual too.  Usually, my days are packed.  : )

Oh and hey....!  Check out my new web forum link off the main page.  Its a bit more dynamic than my simple little guestbook.  Here in the forum  you can write about anything.... well *almost* anything !!

mmm depp

I survived the first round of midterms!  Last week was absolutely insane, just ask anyone at my university.  All of the assignments and midterms were all crammed together.  Luckily, there is an advantage to having two independent study courses- it meant I only had 2 midterms.  Most of my other friends still have another 3 midterms to go and a whack of assignments, yikes.  Good luck, all!

So right now its 1pm on Saturday.  I slept off half of yesterday, and half of today as well.  Its thanksgiving weekend too, so I plan to completely veg at my parents house.  They are coming to pick me up sometime today.  I guess we are going to cook a turkey this year for a change- we never do it because my family is just me and my parents, and we'd never eat that much.  I'll get to eat, sleep and play Playstation games and that's it, can't wait.  Well that's the theory anyways, I hear rumors I get to do a few chores like clean out the hot tub before the weather gets too cold.  I'm thinking 'Too Late'  its been snowing the last couple of days already- I'll prolly be chunking out ice water if they turned it off already.  Well... maybe I'm exaggerating a little.  I also have to prepare a second little lecture on in-depth physiology of insect thermoregulation- no idea where to research that yet.

Did I mention I like Johnny Depp?  Oh yes.  For years my favorite movie was Sleepy Hollow.  It still rates way up there, but if I had to pick a current favorite movie... well I'd have to say Boondock Saints. (You and yer stewpid rope!!)  I also really enjoyed Spiderman.

I spent much of my waking hours yesterday and today going through my cd collection.  (Carla was like 'What?  organizing all 3 of them?'...oh shush, I have more than that,  lol.  I do have a bunch, but have many many more mp3s.)  They were a complete mess and scattered all over, so I'm organizing them and listening to them at the same time.  I forgot I had half of this stuff.  Right now I'm listening to Jive music, back from my swing/jive dance kick in high school.  Still good stuff.  Gives me a complete de ja vu of some of our tours to Vancouver/Victoria, and some of the clubs in Edmonton.  Its a very upbeat form of music, inspiring and refreshing.  Makes me want to take Jive lessons again, but no one wants to take them with me.  : (

Well, that was different- I actually spent the entire day doing homework, and I feel pretty good about it cause I got a lot done.  It was even kinda fun- I got to research information on insects.  I should just break down and specialize in entomology already-- what can I say?  I love bugs.  I get to do a mini-lecture on thermoregulation in insects tomorrow in class.

Two nights ago I experienced my first tabletop D & D game.  And whoa, that was an experience.  If you want to download a close facsimile to what it was like... click here. (3.2MB MP3)  My elven druid Talaera was pretty pathetic, it was kind of funny.  I kept rolling really low numbers, so half the time she would try to throw a dart at the enemy, she'd miss and graze the ranger in our party.  And later on while everyone was sneaking to take a look at the enemy camp over the hill, I rolled a one for my sneak ability.... which meant my naive little druid just trotted up over the hill and alerted the camp of orcs and ogres to our presence... and got an arrow in her to boot.  By the end of the second battle, my teammates were ready to tie her up, take her weapons and lead her out on point into all the battles.  lol.... If you haven't played D & D, I highly recommend it, but you have to have a good imagination and a sense of humor.  If you wanna try a computer-based D & D try this one:  Age of Legends.  I play Lindy in AoL, she's a high priestess of Mishakal.

Yeah this weekend was completely unproductive.  Really relaxing though, so I can't complain.  : )
Visited my parents... tried out my new 19" monitor (whoo!)... did a bit of homework...  that's all.

(... And NO I'm NOT putting that pic up Alex !)

Sept 24th, 2002 Okay, apologies for the Hi-Ho link.  I'm honestly not an anime freak or anything, it was just one of those things happened to be funny at 3 o'clock in the morning.  Now if you want to see a real anime junkie, click on Tirrock under Friends.  (muahaha)

Well school-wise I changed my program again.... just too stressful so I'll be doing a math and running my research project in the summer.. at least in theory.  My hydroponics are all set up and ready to go for environmental physiology, and my chem stuff is calibrated.  Now for my three exams this week.... ack*

I talked awhile with my friend Sarah today.  She's finished her degree seeking a job in an environmental field.... hopefully dealing with wolves.  Her aunt is teaching in China right now and she is probably going to get me a pen-pal out of one of her students.  I've never had a pen-pal before, and I'm intrigued by the prospect.  What does one write to a pen-pal though...?   *boggle

Sept 21st, 2002 HI-HO!

Yeah... its a really scary link I got from Bryan, but click on it anyways.
Why?  Because you know you want too......

What's new with me?  Umm... homework.   And more homework.  Oh.... and homework.  : P

Sept 19th, 2002 Wow, Tuesdays and Thursdays are really quiet for me socially.  Turns out that these are the days I have most of my classes, while everyone else has classes on Mon/Wed/Fri.  It  doesn't help that I am one of the TWO 4th year enviro-sci majors in the school.  It makes for really lonely work- everything I do is independent research because no one else is in my field.  I especially noticed it today as I was setting up a hydroponics experiment for my environmental physiology course.  I guess it just felt so strange setting up an entire lab by myself- no professors, no other students, no time schedule-- just me.

smite.JPG (67383 bytes)

Sweet.  I survived the first chem lab.  It was an important one cause we had to calibrate all of our equipment- pipets, burets, etc, and if we get it wrong, our results are out for the whole year.  Things seem to have gone well so far...

Yeah  like I was saying on the main page, I'd love a keyboard with a 'smite' button.  I'd probably have to fight Mia and a whole whack of other people to keep it in my grasp if I ever found one though.....  : P

Sept 11th, 2002 After much deliberation and consultation last night, I decided to drop a course- my math.  After only three days of classes, I already feel stressed with my course load and workload, and that's just wrong.... dropping it seems to be the best course of action for me.  Why is this a big deal for me?  It means I won't be graduating at the end of this school year.  But I figure, what's more important, enjoying my classes and getting something out of them..... or rushing through, doing a half-ass job and being stressed all year?  Bah.  : P   Who needs work?-  Maybe I'll just be a professional student!  : )

I'm kind of leary to leave my apartment today.  Last year at this time, I stepped outside from the stairwell exit and ended up inside a police barricade.  They had forgotten to block that entrance.  In front of me was a robot poking at a 'mysterious package'.  Nothing came of the encounter except for a paper camera man pulling me out before the police noticed, but it was disturbing nonetheless.  I hope this day is peaceful for everyone this year.

Sept 6th, 2002

Well, summer's over, and its back to university.  I'm officially no longer a bio major, but switched to environmental science.   I get to save small woodland creatures and trees, whoo!

How did I spend my four months off....?  Well, I worked full time for a month and a half at the university labs, doing inventory, cleaning, looking after the lab animals, etc.  I made a new friend out of the deal too- Rebecca.  I've always seen her about the university, but never actually got to work with her until this summer; we shared the same job.  She also 'corrupted' me into playing a new internet game - Age of Legends.  It's a blast, but very time consuming.  I still play it now, and have made more friends through it.... its just fun.  I'm also single again, and I don't really have an opinion on that yet.

One of our summer job tasks was to either type lecture notes or scan slides.... I picked lecture notes which turned out to be a good thing.... it took becca weeks to scan binders and binders of photo slides.  All those pictures of diatoms.... *shudder*  poor becca....

Lessee, I also took two summer classes- Economics 101 (got a 9/9), and Writing 300 (8/9).  I'm quite pleased with myself, that helps me get more scholarships.

I went camping 6 times this summer.
Once with Sarah down to Dinosaur; once with my parents to Cold Lake & Saskatchewan, and once near Drayton Valley.  Also went camping twice with Amanda and Wayne to their cabin at Slave, and then there was Stage 13 in Camrose.  Epic journeys.....Stage 13 alone deserves its own page on my website.... check back later :)
