Asil's Journey

ARCHIVES:  Jan 15th/2003  to Dec 6th/2003

Dec 6th, 2003 Wow... all done university!!  Now what? lol  I'm still in a state of shock, I had my last final exam earlier today from 10am to noon.

We had the Christmas formal for the university this time at the Hotel MacDonald instead of the Sheraton.  A good time was had by all and for a few photos of it check out the snapshots area of my website under university.  : )

Nov 15th, 2003 My job is still going well, not a whole lot to report there.. cept I got a rock one day! lol.. This one elderly guy was all happy that I helped him on the print to print machine and he gave me a rock.  Just.. a rock you'd find anywhere sort of  thing.  It was funny.. but in a way touching too I guess.  It was the thought that counted and all that.  I"ve been having a lazy saturday so far.. was up late playing aol and slept in until about noon today.  Right now I'm trying to figure out where I can buy a filter for my humidifier.. no luck so far.. though I can buy one online if I had a credit card from their site.  I'm also thinking about going dress shopping today.. going to the schools Christmas Formal, and to a dinner theater next week with Bry, and possibly the x-mas party at work too.  We'll see.  I can't seem to get myself motivated today, I just feel like napping.  :)  I finally have the day off!   The freedom is strange.  Tomorrow I get to work by myself in the photo lab for the first time for the whole day.  Should be..interesting.  I hope that nothing goes wrong!  Another thing I might do today is attend a craft sale.. there are usually 2 a year near my school and I try to visit it.  Its usually a sale of pottery, with a few other craft things like candles or knitting, etc.

They Found Nemo!

I have a job!  Working in a photo development lab again, but not Save-On this time.  I get to take passport photos, develop film, put pictures on cd, print pictures from cd using photoshop.. I really like it.  There is always something to do and the time flies by really fast.  Except on  Saturdays that is... no one shows up and there is little to do so you end up hunting for things to do.   Tomorrow there is a Halloween bash at Fort Edmonton.. thinking of checking that out with my friends.  Should be fun : ).

I forgot to mention earlier too that me and a bunch of friends set up Bryan in a surprise 25th birthday party.  It was so funny, he didn't have a clue about it.  We were worried he was going to be grouchy like he was on his real birthday day.. but we needn't have worried ;) .  There were about 25 people there or so and we played games and ate a ton of food.  A good time was had by all.

The Nemo pic was sent to me by Sarah.. so funny.  I haven't seen it yet.

I can't believe we are three weeks into the semester already.  I only have one course- Mat 151 stats in order to finish my degree, so things are pretty lax.  I've been trying to find a temporary job until I'm done my last course... but no one has been calling me back.  I'll keep looking though!

In August, Bryan's brother Rob was married to Erica, and the wedding was very nice.  Brad came up from BC to attend the wedding, and afterwards Bryan and I followed him and his girlfriend Juanita back to Castlegar with them for a two week holiday.  The holiday was fun, and offered much needed rest.  We went boating one day, swimming another day in a secluded stream area, and played a lot of golf on the PS2, lol.  We also went hiking and exploring, saw the Colin Farrel SWAT movie in theaters, and went snipe hunting.. or at least the guys tried to.  ; )   I'm getting the photos redeveloped as they were messed up in the first developing and will put some up here later on.

Other than that, not a lot is happening.  I've been fighting off a cold for the last week that doesn't seem to quit but hopefully that'll be done with soon.  I have my first stats exam this friday.. wish me luck. : )

Aug 6th, 2003 Done!  Did my presentation today for my research course and handed in the report.. and I got a 9 in the course!  All that hard work over the year paid off.  ^_^

I spent most of the week at my parents place, painting things outside and doing a bunch of errands for them.  Now that I'm in the city again, all I can hear is sirens and noise again.  Ahhhhhhh home.  lol.  Today as I was running errands I saw this guy with a briefcase who was looking down at the ground looking puzzled across the street.  So I approached and noticed that a man was passed out on the ground (nothing really new downtown but new that no one else was around or nearby yet).  I spoke with the man with the briefcase and I guess he's from Europe- he mentioned he didn't want to leave the guy alone because one time back in Europe he had left a sick man to get help and the guy had died while he was away.  So, he stayed there with the man today while I hunted for help.  I had my cell phone on me, but it turns out that I didn't need it because there were ambulances and fire trucks in front of my apartment building anyways dealing with something else.  So, I left the two men there and zipped back across the road to tell a man in a fire truck about it.  Funny thing is that he still had to call it in- when he said that I figured that they'd have to call in someone new from the hospital (which is dumb, just across the street) but no, they eventually sent out one of the small emergency vehicles at the other scene to take care of the guy.  He was just really drunk (at 7pm).  So that was kind of interesting for me.  Met an interesting new person and did a warm-fuzzy thing.

Added a new pic under photos.. well it is an old pic that was emailed to me but I put it up.  : )

Saturday was fun- It was Klondike days- every year there's a 10 day festival/amusement park set up in July, and me, Bry, Michelle, and Sarah went on Saturday, which was the last day of the events.  Every year I usually get a stuffed animal of a snake- its the 'losing' prize for playing the fishing game where you fish for a small metal disc- if you get a red disc you win a big prize, but its difficult so I always lose and get the yellow disc and win a snake.  Well this year.. the losing prize wasn't a snake so I didn't try play it, lol.  Instead they were handing out small stuffed flowers as prizes everywhere when you win.. I wanted one really badly but I couldn't seem to find a game to get one in.  But.. Bryan came to the rescue and won for me me.. ironically.. a four-foot long stuffed flower.  LOL.  We didn't even know that was the prize for winning the game until afterwards.  Anyways, I took a picture of it, its cute.  Thanks!!  *laugh*  I can't whine about not getting a flower anymore...

The entire purpose of this update is to add the puppy graphic... lol

I worked on my report most of the day, and finished cleaning off my computer.  The weather was rainy and cool which is nice after the heat wave we had out here.  I'll be doing the 'happy dance' like this dog soon enough when I'm finally done this course. : X

Last night Bryan, Erica, Rob and I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean, Curse of the Black Pearl.  Simply, it was awesome, I loved the movie thoroughly.  The main characters were Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom.. how could it go wrong?? lol.  I'm obsessed with Depp if you didn't notice from an earlier rant. mm.   I really think that Depp plays a great 17th century-19th century character; I like him better in those roles more than modern ones.  I'm definitely seeing that movie in the theater a few times more...

: D

Today was interesting- my computer wouldn't start this afternoon.  It would stick at 'Loading Windows' but nothing would load.  Sooo I spent the time cleaning, making a latch hook rug, going to the festivities downtown, etc.  I also pulled out Sleepy Hollow while waiting.. (yeah yeah for the Depp).    Eventually the computer tech guy visited me at 7pm and got my computer going for the moment.. I still need to do a wipe eventually but I'm able to backup my files and whatnot.  As for the festivities.. right now a few restaurants all have booths set up around the park about a block from my place and they are each offering 2 dishes for sale.  You buy tickets and spend them on whatever dishes you like.. I think its great.  Its a 10-day smorg for me.

I couldn't pick which picture to put up... so I picked three.  *cackle*
I added a new 'emails' section under Anarchy- its just a compilation of a few funny emails I found.

July 3rd, 2003 LOL.  Note to self: when your friends tells you they did something.. even if you think they are only joking.. it is a *really* good idea to check out the rumor.  rofl.  Long story but my friends've been bugging me for weeks now that 'oh you like Asian porn'  (which I don't and its a long story about how that came up but aaanyways.  I think they just like to see me turn red mutter mutter)  Well, long story short after we went out to the Metro drinking a while back ..(I don't remember much about coming back or the evening back at my place) but they told me later that they stuck a bunch of porn on my computer and later on asked if I had found it yet.  WELL.  Today I found it lol.  It is just a bunch of links under the descriptive heading "Porn!!!!"  Goes to show how much I use my website bookmarks for anything... *grin  I got a good laugh out of it though, I really didn't think they did it.  *mutterdorkssmutter*

Well.. my research project is all done, yay.  However, I was dumb and didn't take enough pictures.. I realize now that I should have taken more, so I'm going to stick out one more chunk of pork for a few days to get a few shots then I'll wrap it all up.  I have been working on my report and presentation already, and things are going well.

Canada Day was fun, went out to the Fort Saskatchewan parade with my parents and Baba- I pretty much got poked awake at 8am and was told 'get up! we are going now!'   I enjoyed it.  We stuffed Baba full of hot dogs and pie, and she was happy- we all had a good time.  Later in the evening Bry, his mom, and I went to see the fireworks downtown.  The city put on a pretty good show.  I wanted to run through the high level bridge waterfall but no one would go with me.. and I probably would have caught a cold anyways, the evening was chilly!  : P

Well, I'm finally done the trials for my experiment, and am working on my actual research project: placing pork chops out  in the field and seeing the insect succession upon them.  So far the project is going better than the trial.. I implemented some new things to help out.. like laying out sticky paper around the meat.  That stuff is great!  I no longer have to chase flies around with RAID or with a butterfly net.  And if I see a bug I want.. pick up the paper and touch the bug with it and its stuck to the paper. : D  Also, I'm seeing some other critters show up that I hadn't seen before.  For instance.. I learned not to avoid ants.. they are apparently important too.  The experiment should only take about 3 weeks at which time everything is too dried out to be of any use.

Mom's been redesigning the yard back home so we've been doing a lot of planting and plant shopping.  I thought this picture was funny- we decided to plant the leftover potatoes we had from last year's crop instead of buying new seed potatoes.  So we pull the box of old potatoes out of the basement, and they already have these huge stems on them as they were growing like mad in the dark trying to find light.  We ended up chopping off most of the stems, and planted them like that.  They should do well.  The purple potatoes there are called 'Russian Blues' and they are purple inside too.. when you make mashed potatoes out of them you get funky blue mashed potatoes.  Kind of weirded us out out at first, but they are really tasty.  And in case you were wondering... yes, the pink potato there makes pink mashed potatoes too lol.

June 15th, 2003 Today is fathers day.. and my poor dad has to work late. *grin.  Ah well.

This weekend was a good one- spent it mostly at my bf's place.  We threw a surprise going-away party for Brad on Friday- he's now moved back to BC.  The plot: Bryan took Brad out to the strippers, and in the meantime five of us snuck over to Bryan's place and  set up the party and waited for them to come back.  Brad was so surprised and the look on his face was funny.  We drank and played Cranium and talked all night, I enjoyed it.  I scared the heck out of Rebecca too, it was funny.  It was really hot in the house and we were bored so we all went out back on the deck to wait for the boys (me, Michelle, Becca, Christina and Christina's roommate).  Anyways it was dark and thundering pretty violently and was pretty dark out by this time already, and we were just out back listening for the car to come out front.  Long story, but at one point I had to dash around the lawn to the side of the house to see if a particular car was them.. and I'm always really quick and quiet and Becca thought it was some sort of animal dashing through the yard and she screamed like something was going to attack her or something.  It was hilarious- none of us could move or think, we were laughing so hard.  She had already drank almost a full bottle of wine by that point so that was probably half the problem, lol.  Good thing it wasn't them that time as our laughing would have given us away!  The only other noteworthy thing was that I probably blushed the most I have in a verry long time with merely one sentence and a word spoken over the phone.. and actually I'm so not going into details here. LOL.  Dork.  You know who you are!!

We're going to miss Brad, he's a really great friend, but we all plan on visiting him out there in BC in August.  Also, he'll be out for Rob and Erica's wedding on August 9th, so we'll see him then too.  : )

Wow, a month since an update.  This summer is going pretty good... I get to relax a lot.  My friends and I have started to work out to get in shape.   I haven't ever been to a gym except for in High School phys ed.  Surprisingly, I really enjoy it- it fills me with energy and just feels generally good getting together with everyone and hanging out everyday.  Its be me, Bryan, Brad, Rebecca, and later on Michelle was joining us.  I've also been trying out tanning at a place in the city too that Becca showed me.  I haven't been too enthused about it though, its pretty far away from where I live- but its something I'll try out awhile longer.

I have finished the trial run of my research project and I'm all ready to start the real thing and get it all over with. It'll be pretty work intensive for the next 3-4 weeks collecting all the insects.

Went to a pool hall with Bryan, Brad and Rebecca about a week ago.  It was a lot of fun, and I have to admit that I've never been that drunk before ever.. I think it was a heinous plot.  I don't even remember walking out of the bar that night.  I do remember most of the way home.. but for some reason my arms really hurt the next day along with a nice bruise on my head, lol.  Had a blast though.  I swear that my pool playing got a bit better as the evening progressed.. what? no way.. it wasn't that everyone else was getting worse.. nope.. *shake*  Picked up three nicknames.  Awhile ago I was Lady Deathstrike with my uber long nails (bry's idea) (they are great for defense).. then it was AADAC kid after the drinking fest (dad's idea), and lately its LJ (brad's idea).

Other than that.. been keeping busy.  I've been drawing more, and working on my embroidery pictures that I haven't touched since probably last summer.  I'm going to try get into watercolor again, and maybe acrylic painting.  I also brushed the dust off my PS1 and have been playing that a lot recently too- mostly rpgs like Shadow Madness, Legend of Dragoon, Breath of Fire, and FF9, but I also dragged out Metal Gear 1 and have been playing that again too.  Brad's going home to BC sometime later this week. :(  we'll miss him, but  will definitely keep in contact with him..  Eventually I'll have to find a job (ew), and probably a new apartment.. want someplace with better access to parking and whatnot.. I'll probably miss this place though- it feels very much at home.. cement walls have a plus sound-wise.. the staff are nice here... public transport is convenient... I like how my apt is set up poster-wise and furniture wise.. I think I'm slowly talking myself out of it.  I dunno, never done apartment hunting before, I know I'll need help.  We'll see.  It doesn't hurt to look around at any rate.

May 7th, 2003 Calgary was great, first night we got down there we went out to see X-Men 2 with Mike, Jen, Dave and Kay.  Awesome movie.  The line to get in was insanely long and we figured that we'd get crappy seats but actually we managed to get seats all together and in a decent place.  Nightcrawler kicked ass in the movie- he was done really well.  Mystique was also great.  Three complaints: Mariko isn't supposed to have healing powers, Colossus didn't have a Russian accent, and there was no Gambit!!  What's with that!?  :P   Otherwise it was excellent.  Can't wait for the next movie... I'd say more but not all of you have seen it yet- don't want to spoil anything.  I spent way too much money while down there and I'm extremely sick of fast food, but it was a great mini-vacation.  Check out the sketches brad, bry, and I got done of ourselves (under my snapshots page).  I bought mostly artwork at the convention, a bunch of Star Wars comics, and a Rogue figurine, but that was pretty much it.

Today I had my butt dragged out to the gym, which was the first time I've been to an actual gym since grade 10.  I was exhausted to begin with but made a good go of it.  And oddly enough I came out of there with more energy than I've had in a few days.  I think I needed to stretch out like that.  Today I'm visiting my parents and tomorrow I get to visit the oh-so-exciting-dentist while I'm out there.

Alright, semester is over.  I managed to tie up most of the loose ends I had to do too.  Just have to take a math course this summer, and do my research project and write it up and I have my degree.  This week, and most of last week I've been slacking off, its great.  My last day of work at the university was yesterday- I'll miss it in some ways but I've been there for two years and it was starting to turn into dull, drudgery work so I won't miss it too much.  I've had my fill.  As a parting gift, Mariola and the others gave me a Concordia hoody zip-up sweater.  I really like it, its warm and comfortable.  They also gave me a card with insects on it- they know me too well. *grin.  I thought it was a really nice touch.. I was surprised getting a gift.  Nice people. :)

This weekend I'm off to Calgary with Bryan and Brad to a comic convention.  X-Men 2 comes out on May 2nd so we'll probably see it while we are down there.  Looking forward to it all in all.

What I wish I was
doing instead of studying...

T-minus 2 days until 2 finals, then another 2 days to my last final, ack.  Least I've been studying hard finally, getting a lot done.  For some reason I completely don't' understand I'm barely stressing at all which is a new experience for me, lol.  I think part of the reason is that I've been studying with Sise from my chemistry class and she is stressing 10x worse than I have ever stressed for any exam and it makes me realize how dumb it is.   Just take things as they flow and do what you can, and make up the rest.  I'm keeping my spirits up and things seem to be going well. It helps that I'm going into my finals with good marks, woo.

Sarah's b-day was Saturday, which was fun. Had a BBQ, watched lotr2, played Mario Cart and Bond on N64 (well everyone else did, I sprawled on the couch and stayed with the group watching the movie), and we played a huge round of card games (game= asshole).  Sarah, Michelle, me, Bryan, Becca, Brad, Amanda (Sarah's friend from work), and Sunita (another of Sarah's friends) were there, and Michelle's bf showed up for awhile at the end.  Bryan kicked ass in the card games, being president most of the time, I did average sorta half at the top ranks, half at the bottom, lol.  I haven't played that in a long time.

Lets see..last night was fun too. Nik called me from Nebraska which is my second international call I've received this year woo.  (Amy called from Bosnia last month)  I think he racked up a good $30 phone bill in the process too which is like 'ouch' yet funny, but makes me wonder if I should pay for half.  Anyways, later that night we realized HEY we can netmeet over the internet for free because we both have microphones, so we did that for awhile too, lol.  And he has a drawl.  hehehehehehe   Don't deny it!  You know you do!

Muaha!  Who shall be my next victim to hear me ramble on.....
PS.  I *totally* don't say 'aboot' or 'eh'

April 9th, 2003 Last day of classes is tomorrow.. should be interesting.  Well .. actually not really because its just the tying up of loose ends-- handing in assignments, finishing off my stats assignment, and making sure I have all of the information ready before finals.  Which reminds me... I better start studying eventually..... !!  Amy is back from Bosnia and she brought me back a pair of huge beetles from Italy!  And a monogrammed handkerchief from there too.  I'm glad she made it back safely, and enjoyed seeing her again. Man, she has so many good stories to tell of her tour. hehe.  Next day, Sarah and I went to bp's and had our requisite noodle alfredo baked with cheese, pizza bread.. and Baja Rosa milkshake drinks too because neither of us were driving for a change.  We finished off the evening by draggin out the snes emulator and played super mario world and listening to olp and whatnot. LOL.  And man, we suck- we couldn't get by this one level cause the turtles kept killing us.  Darn turtles!  I played Luigi.

Squeak!

Wow, busy week.  My sleep/wake schedule was completely flipped upside down... half the reason from finishing papers and presentations late at night, and half was Nick's fault keeping me up late on aol!!  lol.  But finally I'm almost done all my projects!  One more presentation to do and one more stats lab and then its just finals.  The last day of classes is on thursday.  Yesterday I went to the U of A with Sise, a new friend of mine from analytical chem.  She needed help researching for her chem paper so between the two of us we found the papers, then went out for supper later in the evening.  It was nice, I don't get to do that much- hang out with people other than my close group of friends.  We talked about a little bit of everything.  I was so tired that day too, living on coffee- which is really rare for me because I'm a coffee drinker.  I added pics of the baby mice to the site.  You should see them.  : )  12 little squeaking pink mice.

Rebecca had her baby yesterday!  Yay!  Congratulations :)  Its a baby girl, that was 8 pounds, 10 ounces.  I'm not sure what her name is yet... and I hope to snag pictures soon.  :)

Went to see the Matthew Good concert yesterday at the Joint in West Ed mall with Sarah last night- for my non-albertan friends, the Joint is a night club plunked in the middle the largest mall in the world.  I hadn't been to that club before so it was interesting.  The concert rocked, was tons of fun.  Music wasn't too loud like it was at the Inferno for Smash Mouth last year.  Then again, I didn't have a migraine for this one like I did for Smash Mouth, so maybe I'm just biased that way.  Matt Good is a rock-type band but its not hard rock like most of the s tuff I listen to.  Afterwards we  went out to Humpty's to meet up with Brad (Smeagol) and Bryan (Bubbles) for a couple hours, was fun.  They had one of those stuffed toy game things there with the claw you control to grab the toy, and Brad and Bryan were really good at it.  Sarah and I went home with an armload of stuffed rabbits and a chicken, it was great.  The mall is huge, if you ever come to Alberta you should check it out- it has hotels, a dolphin pool, a submarine ride pool, and a complete full-sized Santa Maria ship replica, an ice skating rink, at least two theaters, (one has a fire-breathing dragon hanging from the ceiling that breathes fire every 15 minutes), over 800 stores, numerous bars and restaurants, a huge waterpark with waterslides, a large indoor amusement park with rides... oh man, tons more stuff.  I guess in order to compete to stay the largest mall in the world, they are now attaching condos to the edge of it, and expanding even more.

Oh, you should do the Care-Bear test!  *points down*

Cheer Bear
You're the Care Bear cheerleader! Your spunky personality and optimism lifts everyone's spirit. Though you want everyone to be happy, you stand your ground on issues you feel strongly about and this can bring disunity among your friends. Despite this, you are a true believer in working together.

Mar 11th, 2003 lol.... I can be such a science geek.  My notes are nutty.  Lets see if I can share without a huge chem discussion on fluorescence...

Nutshell is when a molecule goes from a high energy state to a lower energy state, it gets rid of the energy by emitting a photon of light.

So this one guy in class goes: Oh, you mean it barfs out a photon?

 LOL

So I wrote down in my notes: GS-->ES = Barfs out a photon.

Yeah don't ask........chemistry humor

Oh, and another lab.... lol...... I have a new title.  Princess of 1PS Phase-Separating Paper.  A friend told me that after I folded filter paper for like an hour for my group.  Then we joked that I earned a minor origami.

The next day we got detailed instructions on making cocaine.  (Hey, it was relevant to the stuff we were learning.)  They make cocaine like wine!  They pick the leaves, throw them in an acid pit (mild acid to protonate it), then they stomp on them to get the chemicals out of the leaves and mix it.  Then cover the pit with a tarp for awhile so its not spotted while stewing.

I had a weekend of mindless fun but managed to get a lot of schoolwork done too.  Today I was playing around with window paint.  Heh heh.  *easily amused*.  Also, check out my latest drawing under illustrations, its a new on of Lindy, my warrior priest on AoL.  I'm rather proud of it, been showing it off to *everyone*.  : )  Back to studying chemistry...

Mar 6th, 2003

Can you believe it?  Scientists have made glow-in-the-dark mice.  Yep.  Mice were given genes from a jellyfish, and now glow green under fluorescent light.  Actually they have been around for a couple of years now, and are being made and sold for research... no doubt patented too.  I don't know, it seems both WRONG and COOL at the same time.  As Sean pointed out while we were studying last night... don't want to release those critters out in the wild else they get picked off by predators pretty easily.... hence his 'Mmm, tastes like highligher' comment.   LOL.

snow.jpg (13342 bytes)

Bleh.  Snow.  Actually, its a neat show, looking at the blizzard outside from within my warm computer area.... oddly enough the temperature is pretty warm outside too but there is a ton of snow swirling around in a sort of whirlwind out my window.  I live downtown among tall buildings, so the snow whips through the tunnels between the buildings pretty fast.... means it snows UP or SIDEWAYS here rather than down.

Saw LOTR2 again yesterday with my parents... it was dad's b-day. : )  I've now seen the movie 4 times.... and still love it.  At the moment I'm writing up a presentation on pesticides and insect resistance to pesticides for wednesday.  *loves bugs*

Feb 22nd, 2003 Did some major photo updates, and merged the snapshots with the friends section instead of having separate links.  Go check 'em out.

Rebecca and I were really bored yesterday so we convinced Bryan to have us over and feed and entertain us, lol.  We had a good time- played ps2 games, hung out etc.  We picked on Becca's little girl Jordynne a lot- she's a real sweetheart.  I was so happy to have company because I've been hiding from the cold weather in my apartment most of the week since I got back from Sarah's.

*glances down at the date on the previous post*

  ...thinks...

Oh.  Okay fine!  So it was only 3 days I was stuck in the house but I was still bored!  rofl

daredevil.jpg (12218 bytes)

Yay reading week.  I mean 'yay' for several reasons, all of which dealing with me getting to both slack off and catch up on work all in one week.  I visited Sarah over the weekend again and we had a great time vegging, and watching movies with hot guys (hey its Valentine's Day weekend and we are both single so we can oogle at guys all we want).

We went and saw Daredevil the night it came out.  She lives on the edge of the city and there's a great theater there that is seldom overcrowded just because its out in the boonies.  The movie was really great, but wow it sure was violent.  I read an interview with Ben Affleck and he said he himself was surprised at the violent nature of Daredevil in the movie- how he killed a lot of people, etc, even though he's not like that in the comic books.  Affleck says that by the end of the movie, Daredevil gets to the point that he is at in the comic books, and I completely agree with him.  It was a character-developing movie.  He's signed up for another DD flick, and I imagine that one will be more along the line of the comics.  Anyways, Sarah and I ran out and bought the soundtrack immediately after we saw the movie.. well the next day cause the mall was closed.. and its a good soundtrack.  I have a new favorite song:  Bring me to Life, by Evanescence. Its GOOD.  Dload or buy the thing.  The song really stuck out in our minds in the movie, it really fit in as Elecktra's sort of Theme music.  Sarah couldn't stop giggling whenever Colin Farell (Bullseye) came on.  It was  kind of funny.  (She's obsessed, lol.)

Only one adventure to report, haha.  We decided to try make margaritas.  We bought the mixes and everything.  She's housesitting for a family friend now so we were there at their house, and they have one of the fancy fridges that make crushed ice.  It didn't really crush it enough so we finished crushing in a food processor-- yeah they didn't have a blender.  I mean who doesn't have a blender!!?  Everyone should have a blender. Yeesh.  But anyways, we managed to turn all the countertops pink from the mix, it was funny.  Mmm. Strawberry.  We got it all out of course, but there was a panicked moment.  lol.  I can just see it.  The owners get home from Maui and we go "Hi.  You guys need to buy a blender.  OH.  And your counters were pink before!  Honest!"   I discovered that homemade margaritas go down pretty good.  God I had a headache the next day.   : X

Oh yeah, I added a few new photos to the site, go check'm out.

Removed the Splash page finally- I liked it but it was sort of a pain to click through and I was too lazy to come up with a new one. Mwaha.  Not much new around here.... down to 2 new mice though and the lab was filled with diesel fumes today-oops.  Megan's experiment involves soil contaminated with diesel (I think she is using plants to remediate the soil) and when she moved the plants to the same fume hood I previously used for my lettuce experiment, we got a lot of  fumes released.  Didn't think it would be a problem because she was using such small concentrations, but I guess when its in a sealed chamber heated at 30 Celsius from the light lamps, it became a problem.  Anyways, crisis was averted and everything survived and the room didn't explode. *grins*  Other than that, I've been preparing for my chem midterm Thursday.  Chemistry  is one of those subjects I have to study for days and days to get anything near my usual mark level.  (I probably rant in here every chem midterm too.)   Shouldn't do too bad... I hope.  Today is my mom's b-day, called her a few times and visited her and dad on the weekend.  It was all quite nice -- I enjoyed the trip a lot.  It was like a mini-vacation.
Feb 4th, 2003 Ever have one of those days that was all scheduled... but not at thing went as planned?  Well that was me today.  It wasn't a bad day, nor was it especially a good one, but spontaneous.   I'm very much one of those people who have to plan everything out ahead of time, or else it has to be completely spur of the moment-- there's no happy medium.  The list goes on and on why today was weird but it all started by getting up a 1/2 hour eariler.  I think its what screwed everything up. lol.  Meant I had a 1/2 hr to kill just before I normally leave, so I missed the transit and stats class.  Oookay.. so I did a ton of homework in the library instead... and missed the second transit and chemistry class, but damn I got a lot of work done.  Sooo then  I did some more  homework, and barring an incident with a drugged-out-drunk-guy-at-10am in the library, it was uneventful.  (Oh, and chivalry is not dead afterall, a random guy in the library helped me shoo the creep away.)  Anyways, finally made it to school after that, and I had an hour to kill, so I  worked in the lab.  This is where the mouse adventure comes in:  we ordered 3 breeding pairs of mice.  But we got 4 males and 2 females instead.  Upon inspection, one was dead, one was blind, and a third had a paw stuck in the food grating and I had to pry it out.  Which took the second half of chemistry.   BAH. Things went on from there, but I survived the day, 4 of 6 mice survived the day, and I finished my chem lab in a decent amount of time for a change.  We were determining the amount of fluoride in Crest toothpaste analytically, which was kind of neat.

Happy New Year!

Oh man.. back to school again.  Sounds like too much work for me!  NoOooooOooooo!

I went to a house party at Mike's acreage for new years, then we drove into the city to watch the fireworks, etc.   It was odd though- the fireworks were horrible this year! They just shot them from one little corner of city hall.  I think they wanted to increase safety..... 2 years ago the fireworks were pinging off the building-sign off a tower-building and we got to watch molten firey plastic dripping down the side of the building.  Entertaining, but not good!

This is a special day as its the birthday of me and two of my friends.  Rebecca and I turned 23 today, and Bob turned 21.  Yeesh, we're getting old!

Overall the holidays were a recuperation and relaxation period, which was much needed.  I saw Lord of the Rings, the Two Towers twice in theater so far, I enjoyed it immensely.  I plan to see it again once or twice before it goes out of the theaters.  If you haven't seen it.... go!

Look!  Updates!  I re-added the Links page up on the top menu bar... I apparently made it a long time ago.. I just found it again recently and stuck it back up.  I must have accidentally toasted it awhile ago.  But its back! Rejoice!  I also added a couple illustrations.  And.. I ditched the bground here, looking for a new one.  I'll do more when I have time, things are picking up now in school.
