University Life
| These are some of the lab critters I've looked
after for the university. Its my second year working there, and because
I've never had pets of my own besides fish, I have taken great pleasure
in looking after them. I've learned a lot about animals during my
stay, and its always good to have a feel of animal care in case I go
into medical research or other such field. The university
currently holds hamsters, gerbils, mice, cockroaches, worms, and various
fish, but in the past (and probable future) it has housed snakes,
budgies, cockatiels, chicks, and various frogs as well. In case
you are worried, the animal we hold in stock aren't for
dissecting. They are used only for observational/behavioral
experiments. |
| Christmas Formal 2003
We had the Christmas formal at the Fairmont Hotel, the Hotel
MacDonald in late November of this year.
A good time was had by all :)
The quality of the pics is a little cruddy.. I'm going to try rescan
them better later, lol. I'll also add more later.

| On March 5th, 2003, 12 baby mice were born in the greenhouse. I
was breeding them for the university, as they needed more. I
walked in one day... heard a bunch of squeaking from the back room and
knew that they were born. I had never seen baby mice before so
this was a bit of excitement for me. : )

| Boo the Hamster Funny story about Boo.
Michelle/Bryan/Sarah named it Boo after
the girl on Monsters Inc.
We found out about 2 months later
that 'Boo' is actually male. oops! The name stuck though. We
smuggled Boo out of the university to Michelle's place where he lived
out the rest of his days being pampered and spoiled.

| Lettuce Experiment
For environmental physiology, I grew lettuce and radish
hydroponically with different nitrogen levels. This picture is of
the 9 ppt nitrogen lettuce, which seemed to grow the best. The
radish barely grew at all in the hydroponic system- I think the roots
rotted.

Chick Lab Experiment
In Animal Behavior, we used chicks to see what color of food they prefer to
eat, and to see if they eat faster in cold or warm temperatures. My partners here were Bryan, Michelle and Sarah.
(Blue and green was picked more than yellow and red)
